Theory Courses
On Board run all the RYA Theory Courses
from our modern classroom in Northney Marina.
All course prices include coffee/tea and biscuits as well as a light
lunch.
Accommodation can be arranged at the Langstone Hotel next door to the Marina
or the Cockle Warren Cottage Hotel on Hayling Island Sea Front. (a 5 minute
drive)
Day Skipper Theory:
The Day Skipper Theory Course is an introduction into navigation and
seamanship for short coastal passages. The syllabus takes you through:
- Sea Safety
- Emergency Procedures and Equipment
- Collision Avoidance Regulations
- Tidal Streams and Tidal Heights
- Traditional Navigation
- Electronic Navigation
- Bouyage
- Pilotage
- Passage Planning
- Meteorology
You will be working with up to 5 other students and
one of our Yachtmaster Instructors for 5 days in the classroom. You will
also be expected to cover 2 hours of homework each night.
You will end the week fully equipped with all the skills to safely take to
sea along the coast for short passages. You will also be prepared for doing
your Day Skipper Practical course.
By the end of the week you can expect to be familiar with the working and
safety of a Yacht at sea as well as confident to carry out any task required
of you by your skipper.
This course will be run on the following dates:
- 16th January, 20th February, 20th
March 2006.
- 24th April, 22nd May, 26th June,
17th July 2006.
- 21st August, 25th September, 23rd
October 2006.
- 22nd November, 18th December 2006.

Yachtmaster Theory:
The Yachtmaster Theory Course is an essential course for anybody wishing to
do there Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster Practical Exams and or ultimately
become a Professional Skipper. This course covers the same areas as the Day
Skipper Syllabus, but expects a much more deeper understanding and skill
level.
During the weeks course you will be pushed hard to plan passages along the
coast, over the channel and around the Channel Islands. You will also be
tested on your knowledge of Safety and Meteorology.
This course will be run on the following dates:
- 16th January, 20th February, 20th
March 2006.
- 24th April, 22nd May, 26th June,
17th July 2006.
- 21st August, 25th September, 23rd
October 2006.
- 22nd November, 18th December 2006.
All Inclusive Price: £360 Per
Person.
VHF Radio Course:
If your boat has a VHF DSC Radio or you own a Hand Held VHF Radio it is a
legal requirement that you have a VHF License to operate it. Also if you are
looking to become a Yachtmaster Offshore it is a pre-requisite that you hold
a valid VHF Licence.
The RYA VHF course teaches you how to operate the unit under normal and
emergency conditions as well as all the theory behind the modern digital
radio units.
The course price includes tea/coffee, biscuits and a light lunch.
