Practical Courses

On Board – Yachting run the following courses on our new Beneteau 393. Your Instructor will be an experienced Yachtmaster Instructor and you will have a ratio of only 3 or 4 students to 1 Instructor. You will have your own cabin (Unless you are a couple of course) and the price includes all your food on board, berthing, diesel and wine or beer with your evening meals.

The boat is spacious and comfortable, has hot and cold running water and central heating.


5 Day RYA Practical Courses are running:

  • 30th April to 5th May 2006
  • 28th May to 5th June 2006
  • 27th August to 1st September 2006
  • 1st October to 6th October 2006

Competent Crew

The RYA Competent Crew Course is an Introduction to Yachting. It is designed for the complete beginner to spend 5 days at sea on a Yacht and learn all about living aboard and crewing a Yacht.

By the end of the week you can expect to be familiar with the working and safety of a Yacht at sea as well as confident to carry out any task required of you by your skipper.

This course is aimed at either the complete beginner to Yachting and Sailing, as well as those who are familiar with boats, but may not have spent any time on larger Yachts.

At the end of the week you will have attained the Competent Crew Practical Certificate. This tells other Yacht Skippers that you will be a useful and practical member of his or her team.
 


Day Skipper

The RYA Day Skipper Course is designed to teach experienced Yacht crew all the skills required to take a boat to sea as the
Skipper for the first time. Over the 5 days you will learn all the skills required to skipper the boat and plan and execute short coastal passages by day.

One of our experienced Yachtmaster Instructors will teach you the skills and supervise you at sea while putting it all into practice. You will learn how to moor the boat in marinas or up to mooring buoys, under sail and power, dropping anchor, tidal calculations, weather, emergency situations, safety at sea, traditional navigation, electronic navigation, Fixing, plotting, crew management etc etc.

The successful completion of the 5 days will give you the Day Skipper Practical Certificate which shows that you are competent to conduct short Passages by day in local waters.

The course is designed for Yacht crew who would like to become the skipper and start to charter boats or buy their own, as well as good Dinghy sailors that would like to try their hand at Yachting.
 

Coastal Skipper

The RYA Coastal Skipper Certificate sits at the top of the RYA Practical Training programme. Successful award of the Coastal Skipper Certific
ate shows skills and ability to competently conduct any Coastal Passage by day or night. If you already regularly Skipper yours or chartered yachts and have a good navigational ability, then this is the course for you.

You will be set many challenges through the week to test and improve your knowledge and ability.

Over the 5 days your Instructor will gentle refine your skills and abilities and get you to confidently carry out any mooring, berthing, emergency or navigational tasks in a calm and professional manor.

This course is for the more experienced Yachtsman and we would expect you to have the Yachtmaster Theory Skill level as well as having skippered Yachts for several 60 mile plus passages.
